Jackson limits a portable storage container to 30 days before a permit is needed, Gulfport requires a floodplain permit in special flood hazard areas, and Hattiesburg requires a certificate of zoning compliance for every accessory structure.
A closed steel container sweats in Mississippi's humid air. Vents and pallets keep stored goods dry, and a container you heat and cool needs insulation bonded to the steel and air conditioning sized to remove moisture.
Gulfport allows converted container homes only in existing manufactured home parks in its R-B district, Jackson's zoning ordinance does not name container homes, and factory-built modular homes go through the State Fire Marshal's plan review.
